I bought the first two books in this series not too long ago. I really should read it one of these days! This certainly helps in encouraging me to do so!

I just love it when an author carries us away to a fresh new world and makes it so convincing!

I bought Warlord and saved it to read this week while on Spring Break. Over the weekend, okay yesterday, I reread the first two and was reminded why Warpize is one of my favorite rereads.  I’m about 60 or so pages into Warsworn (couldn’t wait to start it) and I want to read slowly so I can savor it.  I love this series and hate that there will be no more Keir and Lara stories.

So, here’s my question for Beth:  In the back of the book you give us a teaser about what’s coming next.  Will the heroine be a female warlord?  Will we still be invited to the same time and place as the first three books?  We you let us “hear from” Keir and Lara in the next book?  And, will this be a series also?  Oh,yeah, and how long till this one is out?

Okay, more than one question, I know, but I truly enjoy your books and you are on my autobuy list.  Too bad you can’t write them as quickly as I read them.  : )

I have read the first two and will be picking up Warlord very soon.  I will reread the first two before reading Warlord.

I love these books and Ms. Vaughan’s writing.  Looking forward to her visit.

I guess my questions would be what’s next for her and where will she be taking us.

I know I will be buying her books.

Love the books, so well written! Squawk has been my undoing! All the great authors recommendations, in all areas!

Question for Elizabeth..when you are dealing with ‘fantasy’ ie, made up worlds, language etc..do you limit yourself? Does a fantasy/paranormal writer just run with it? Whereever it goes, follow it? I was thinking in contrast to historical writers, who have to work within the known facts of history, say, such as corsets, manners, rules of the period..
Wonderful to have you here!

I have the same questions as everyone....What’s next? When? I loved Warlord. That would be great if the next one will be a female Warlord.

I loved this series. I don’t normally read fantasty, and only picked up Warprize because it was so highly recommended on some bulletin board. Boy, were they right! It’s one of the best books I’ve read, and I re-read it (or parts of it) frequently. Warsworn was also great, though much darker. I just finished Warlord on Saturday and was so disappointed when it was over with and I realized there weren’t going to be more books in that series. It could have been twice as long and I would have been happy.

For Ms. Vaughn: In Warlord, there were some plot surprises, particularly with Marcus. When you wrote Warprize, did you already know Marcus’ back-story? Or did it come to you while you were writing Warlord? Did you have Warlord planned out from the beginning?

By the way, I loved the scene at the end of Warlord with Keir in the white pants. Wow! It was a very powerful scene, and the symmetry with the scene in Warprize was very moving. Keir is such a wonderful character!

These books are so wonderful.  Refreshingly original, beautifully written, gorgeous characterization.  I preordered Warlord and it arrived almost a week early, which was fabulous as I’d just finished rereading Warprize and Warsworn.

I have a question for Elizabeth--when do you find time to write?

Looking forward to your next books, and these three will be reread many times in the future when I need a fix smile

Beth - Can’t say enough about this series of books. What a wonderful, wonderful gift they are! WARLORD ended the series in the best possible way. It was touching, and beautiful, and so fitting. Although, I’ll admit that I closed the book with a sense of sadness that I wouldn’t get to see the Plains again.

I was glad that this story wasn’t quite as heart-rending as Warsworn, which I literally could barely read through the tears.

Any chance we’re going to see more of the Heart of the Plains?

This series sound perfect for my upcoming vacation.  I haven’t read any fantasy books since I was a kid, but this series sounds appealing.  Thanks for the recommendation, Christina, and looking forward to reading your books Elizabeth.  They sound great.  Looking forward to them.

Hi everyone!  Thanks for having me!

I just got a break from the day job, and I need to read the comments and qestions.  Give me a minute. . .

[WHOOP WHOOP][ALERT ALERT][HEAD- SWELLING ALARM.  REPEAT.  HEAD-SWELLING ALARM.]

We interrupt this posting . . . Ms. Vaughan will return as soon as her head returns to normal size.  The procedure is non-life threatening, and will only take a moment.

Whew.  Sorry about that, but your comments made me a bit. . .heady.

<g>

Thank you all so much for the welcome.  I am looking forward to spending the day with you tomorrow.  But for now, let me answer a few of your questions.

maibeeme - Ummmm.  Kinda.  The new book is in a different land, and my heroine is a mercenary.  She’s the exact opposit of Lara, that’s for sure.  More like to kill than cure ya.  The projected publication date is April, 2008.

Lara and Keir are still whispering in the back of my head, telling me what happens next.  I don’t rule out another book in the series, but I am not under contract at the present time.

Ashefrog, I will be trying to take you into a new land, one where the kingdom has been wracked with tradgedy and strife.  I’m not going to give you a lot of hints today, but I do promise to post a sample chapter to my website as soon as I can.

Ms. Mary, Fantasy give me a lot of freedom, more so than the historical writers.  Besides, I’m very fond of magic and dragons!

Statch,

Marcus didn’t share his back story until I started writing Warsworn.  Only the winds know where that plot twist is headed, but I ask you, can you think of anyone more stubborn than our Marcus?

Toni,

[blush] Thank you!  I tend to write in the evenings and on the weekends.  I don’t have a spouse or kids, and the cats don’t mind if I spend the night at the computer.
But there are days when my body is at my desk, but my head is on the Plains, if you know what I mean!

MaryKate,

Believe me, I was sobbing as I wrote Warsworn.  And never say never, hon.

OMG...I LOVED this series...LOVED IT, and cried at the end of Warlord like the big ole baby that I am!!!  VERY WELL WRITTEN, LOVED all of the characters and the plot twists and of course, LARA and KEIR!

So, if Marcus is still whispering to you, but a book is not in store at the moment, would you ever consider a novella, to wrap up his story. (And possibly Atira’s) I’m sure you know most of us would love to see a certain reunion ***I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet!!*** And it would give us the opportunity to ‘check up’ on Lara and her Warlord.

Again, I loved this series.  I had the opportunity to grab it off the shelves before the hoopla was made and they began to become hard to find!!  And I waited patiently by the shelves as the two newest were released, closed myself in a room (okay, it was the bathroom, and my family thought I was having issues, but anyway..) and read until they were done.  FABULOUS books!!

THANK YOU!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I’m so excited I could scream, except that I work in an environment where you can literally hear a pin drop so it’s all internal screaming smile (I so needed a bouncing smiley).

I loved Warprize - it was so different from other romances in where it was set. I’ve deliberately not read any of the other posts because I think some of the questions are from people who have already read Warlord and it hasn’t reached NZ yet (and I so don’t want a spoiler). (I’m walking around with ear muffs on and my head in a paper bag until I pick up Lover Revealed this weekend - yes, the lengths I will go too are scary).

My question for Ms Vaughan (and apologies if this has been asked already) - where did the inspiration for this series come from? The cultures are fasctinating?

PS The WARDen is visiting too! I need to lie down.... smile

Now, where did I leave off?

kate-o, I don’t know what form it might take.  We will have to wait and see.  And as to a certain reunion. . .[sly, evil smile]. . .well, let’s just see what happens.

Toni,

Well, off the top of my head. . .

Anne McCaffrey, Dennis McKiernan, Rex Stout, Collen McCullogh, Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, Mercedes Lackey, Dana Stabenow and Peter O’Donnell.  Quite a group, eh?

Cherie Japp,

I read a short story where a woman surrendered herself to a warlord, and I didn’t believe it for a minute.  But then the voice in myhead said - what kind of woman would do that?  Next thing I knew, Lara was talking to me in my head, telling me why she did it.

colinfirthfan,

I’ll see what I can do!

orannia,

Well, once Lara started talking I knew that I was dealing with a clash of cultures.  And since I am a history buff, I knew which cultures I was going to steal. . .er. . .be inspired by.  It started building from there.

Unfortunately I have not the pleasure of reading Warlord as yet, but I’m sure it will be a joy to read when I do!

My question for Elizabeth would be how she goes about naming her characters, somehow she uses names that so fits them that’s its so amazing.

Also love the way she bring us into her world and lets our imagination run wild *lol* Thanks I look forward to your releases even though it takes a heck of a long time to reach our shores - I’m situated in South Africa, so yeah when it released in the US it takes a further 4 weeks to be available on this side of the world for us to order. So take pity on us poor souls here when you all go out and get the new releases ...

I love this website.  I have so many books piling up on my TBR list.  I haven’t tried the fantasy genre too much so this will be an exciting break up to my usual reads.

I do have a question.  I didn’t see it asked by anyone else above but I could have missed it.  Anyways, do you base your characters off of anyone?  Or are they a complex jumble of what works best with the plot?

I always like to ask authors that because I find most characters to be very unique and memorable.  Some characters will stay with me for years even if I forget the story.  For me, I have to like the characters to like the story.  And by the sounds of it, your characters are wonderful.  I’m looking forward to reading their stories.

Beth,

You books sound great. I asked the library I work for to order them so can recommend them. I love turning people on to great new authors.
I have this group of eighty year old guys that always look for me to find them new books to read and they really enjoy the adventure romances.
A lady came in today and told me how much her daughter enjoyed the book I recommended. Helping someone find a book they like, especially a child really makes my day.
Thanks to you and all the other writers out there for putting in all those extra hours for all of us eager readers.

Hi Mz Beth!

I’m a scaredy-cat about new-to-me-authors but since the Squawkers raved about Marsha Moyer, JR Ward and Geralyn Dawson among others and I flipped over all of them.....well, you get the idea.
I am very excited to try your series. As long as I am guaranteed hot romance, fast-paced dialogue and HEA......? cheese

I have to admit--there are a lot of little things I wear that give me that extra boost. Really fuzzy socks, a really beautiful hat my grandmother knit me, and a silver necklace my boyfriend gave me.

This is going to sound really weird, but having my cat sit on/by me really helps me work. Yes, she’s absolutely impossible, but I’ve gotten so used to it that it is kind of hard to focus without her. LOL
