Connie ponders The Meaning of Squawk Radio
40 Comments
Damn, Connie. Now I’m crying again!
I’m just going to put a box of tissues next to the computer for the next week. I have a feeling I’m gonna need it.
You nailed Squawk’s formula for success, at least for me. I wasn’t looking for CNN subjects and editorial page topics. What kept me here were six amazing authors who were willing to share with us the ups and downs of their daily lives, their hopes, dreams, fears, trips, recipes, beauty secrets, embarrassments (water skiing anyone?) and everything else that made you not only best-selling, award winning authors but women just like me. When we finally met in person in Atlanta last summer you all welcomed me with hugs and smiles and laughter, just like we had been friends for years. That’s when I realized what I’ve gained from Squawk - wonderful new friendships that I will always treasure.
Thank you Connie and Squawkers. It’s been a helluva ride!
It has been an honor and a privilege to belong to this community of awesome women. (and I think a few guys). I feel so close to all of you that if I saw you out shopping somewhere, I would just walk up and give you a hug, like long lost friends. Thank you Connie and all the squawkers.
And I too would like to take a minute to wish everyone a safe Memorial day. I encourage you to take part in the celebrations of today. We need to honor our fallen heros and pray for their families.
Dear Connie--
I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that soon, there will be NO MORE Squawk Radio.
Ya’ll have been a very important part of my insular little world for a long time now. Amazing how “dependent” we become.
And truly, I have to thank you a million times over for bringing me so much joy. The laughter, the friendships, eye candy, cool new music (or rediscovered music) and wonderful reads are invaluable--I’ll treasure them forever.
Love you bunches and I’ll see you next year in the City By The Bay

I echo your sentiments, Prudence. It ‘s important to remember the service members and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Oh heck - somehow I missed the post that said that Squawk Radio was coming to an end! Wah! I was here at the very beginning, but was reduced to lurking when I took a more than full time job and couldn’t bear to do more than look in once a week or so - I missed you all so much! Thanks you ladies for giving me a safe place to come and read, although my contact was limited these last couple of years, I felt a sense of belonging, of community. I’ll miss that! Best wishes to all of you in the future, I’ll be looking for you in your books!
Aw, that was luverly, Connie! Sniff...sniff…
Connie, when you do heart-tugging, you go straight for the soul.
And it’s a Monday morning and now I’m weepy and melancholy.
Somebody please say a bad word or something.
I’ll miss you so much, Connie: your quirky perspective, your sense of humor, and your big heart.
I don’t plan on missing your talent, however. If your writing is the only way to get a dose of you, so be it. Just please don’t stop writing. Ever.

At the risk of sounding stalker-ish and creepy, Squawk has given me the sense that I “know” you all; that we have shared coffee and grumblings and pj parties, pet peeves and hopes and dreams and disappointments. My rational mind knows that it is largely the result of your splendid writing and generosity: you all appeared as fundamentally human – funny, sly, wry, hopeful, intelligent, passionate, witty, good natured and grounded (well, all except Kitty). But my HEART says “we could be friends” and I think you all will leave a hole in many many hearts when you close the door to the coop. We all know that the world can be full of too much reality – it’s partly why we read romance. But you all made reality fun and funny. You touched my emotions and my intellect, always for the better (well, all except maybe Kitty). I will miss that sense of community tremendously.
So fare well, friends. Silly, I know, but I feel like my favorite neighbor just left the block!
Thanks for the memories. Thanks for the books to come. Thanks for sharing.

Ah Connie - You simply nailed it. It’s amazing the sense of community that has grown holistically from this blog. You and the other ladies have used your wonderful senses of humor, and incredible writing ability to touch our hearts or funny bones.
Thank you for hosting this terrific party. We’ll all miss you so much. Thank goodness we’ll still be able to bring your amazing work into our homes and enjoy them over and over again.
So thank YOU!
Oh forget it-
I won’t be able to read a blog from now on without getting all teary eyed. That was beautiful, and like Gillian said… Thank YOU!!! Connie, you rock. I am not sure what we are supposed to do after this? lol.
Connie your blog today is a prime example of why we all love SquawkRadio so much. You all really have created a sense of community and we will all miss it very much. Thank you all for giving us a little piece of yourselves.
Connie, it is your witty blogs that made me start reading your books. Thank you for sharing yourself with us.
Connie really hit the nail on the head about what has kept me coming back. Squawk Radio has filled my girl talk void and provided us all with a place where we can pretty much say anything. And ditto what ChrisTinaC, and Laura T said.
@#$% (How’s that for a bad word J Perry?)
I’m going to miss you all, Squawkers and Squawkees, so very much!
Sniff....
Eloisa
You guys are so incredibly eloquent that I feel you should ALL be writing brilliant non-fiction tomes about female bonding!
Now somebody say a naughty word so J Perry will cheer up. (How about if I send Wilbury over to your house with a feather duster, J?)
Ah, you guys. What a terrific group we have here.
I want to encourage you all to ahve a safe Memorial Day, too. I’d tell you my family is heading for the lake but then you’d all want video feeds and the world is not ready for some things…
For JPStone...go find the Will Ferrrel “Pearl” bit on the internet. I’m sure it’ll do the trick for you…

( Unhappily Kitty has claimed she is going to hack my site and post crap so the one thing we haven’t managed to purge cyber space of is Kuttlestone. )
Terri - I’m mixing up a batch of mimosas and breaking out the emergency Godiva, and am warming up my collection of naughty words (I learned from Liz, of course).
J Perry, I’m on my way. :D
Sniff, sniff indeed.
Thanks Squawkers!
Geez, Connie, go straight for the heartstrings why don’t you? I’m glad I’m not wearing mascara today.
And I’m still IN DENIAL that Squawk is coming to an end. Please tell me it’s all been a bad dream and I’ll find Bobby Ewing in my shower. Hmmmm, come to think about it...........
Lord Connie, that choked me up. I don’t need that so early in my day. I’m really going to miss you all. But, I don’t want to get maudlin.
Of all of the sites I have been to, I think this is the only one where I never sensed tension or conflict from people. This has been a community of sisters (and a few brothers) who have truly supported each other and been vulnerable with each other.
Squawk Radio has allowed us to explore genre’s, men, styles, men, writing, men, shoes, men, songs, men, and thoughts. Oh, and men. I do hope we get one final collage of all the beautiful men who have graced this site over the last two years.
Deb
J. Perry - Just for you.
Vart.

Great last blog Connie!
Someone pass the tissue. Sniff..
What a lovely last blog, Connie. I, like everyone else, will really miss my daily dose of Squawk and spending time with such a remarkable group of women.
Love you all!
ahh! I’m misty again, drat!! Connie and all, I also want to say how funny this blog can be. With out being snarky (well, at least to us!!) I read several other book blogs, and Squawk is one of the few that are so accepting. Thanks again for such a great blog.
Lovely
Thank you to all the ladies who have written in and especially to the amazing writers whom we all love---I have truly enjoyed reading all the blogs dealing with the many subjects we as women know first hand.
We share a commanality that is special and enjoyable and I am truly going to miss smiling into my 19” screen.
Even though I am sad, I am not giving up hope on hearing from my favorite writers on their websites. I tend to visit them on a weekly basis to see what I should read next, and happen upon any new news.
Perhaps Squawk radio is stopping for only a time, not forever...after all- never say never!
Thank you again everyone, you all have added much sunshine in my life!
Dear Connie,
Everyone is right; we are so thankful for all of you! You all have given us a wonderous gift..... sharing your opinions, thoughts, funny antidote about your life and experiences.
I used to open a new book and just read it; thinking that was a good author. Now when I start a book from one of you six I feel a special little thrill, because you all have made us feel like your friends, and I know how much of yourselves you put into each of your books.
Thank you!
P.S. I just got “All Through the Night.” I can’t wait to start it!
Connie that’s really sweet. It had been wonderful just some days participating in the days topics and other days it was just nice reading all the comments from such wonderful women.
Thank you so much Connie and thank you Squawkers and, well, everyone
Tissues anyone? (That post was so beautiful Connie it has made me cry...but in a good way.)
orannia
PPS (I’m a little slow this morning) I am excited to say that I have 2 of our lovely Squawkers books waiting for me at the library - Fairest of Them All (Teresa) and...(I think I need a drum roll) - PFP! Yes, a double dose...ahhhhh bliss
Well, !@#$, Connie. You !@#$ing say the nicest !@#$ing things sometimes.
There, J. That !@#$ing ought to make you feel a little !@#$ing better.
Connie,
You hit everything right on the head for me. Squawk Radio was such a place to connect with a group of fabulous women!
I’ll keep saying it for as long as I can here. YOU GUYS ROCK Squawker and Squawkee alike.
And, J! It’s about &^%$%! time you snapped out of it! *w*
But you know, darlin’, LYG!
What a dear final blog, Connie!
Sniff! Sniff! Sniff!
(and two years of posting has not lessened my love of exclamation points!)
Great --- just when I was hoping to read another one of your most snarkiest blogs ever - I get this!! Sending a big thank you back sistah!
O.K., you guys have to stop making me cry! Thank YOU, Connie—and the rest of the squawkers! We squawkees have been greatly enriched by you lovely ladies and this blog, as well as by each other, so many thanks.
Thank you all for the @#$ and the @#$%%. and the varts, and my darling Wilbury, and that HILARIOUS video, Connie ...
but I’m still depressed. And this time, I’m not joking. Cynthia and I were talking and she said, “it feels like my best friend just told me she’s going to move away”
Yup.
Well I’m just bummed. I didn’t know the blog was going away. I’ve enjoyed everyone here for the last six months. The link in the Squawk Chat For Favorite Readers is over my skill level. I’ll save it and try again another time.
Thank you all for six great months of sharing.

Here I am, a day late and a $ short. We have been so busy in our household that I now feel for the Squawkers.
I agree with all of you except for the fact that I will miss Kitty as well as all of you Squawkers and Squawkees.
I do not think I have ever seen a group as connected as the Squawkees, and I have been in some great groups.
I just noticed that my word is woman96...we are at least that many and we are all teary-hey! we could probably move the world.
I will try to check back and also join all of you on Thursday, I will try.
Love you all, Gram
Dang Connie you made me cry again!
I’m going to miss you all so very much! Dang it, where are the kleenex!
HUGS!!!!
No Connie, thank you. Thanks to all of you… Squawkers & Squawkettes. I am the one who should feel the Most Grateful…You all have given me a very special gift. That gift of Words. I hadn’t written a letter in 15 years. I was out of practice. Out of ideas. And desperate to find something to write about…
And then I discovered Squawk Radio! Aha!
Thanks to all of you for letting me practice my Letter Writing on… YOU.
PS. Anyone want to be my ghost writer? I don’t think that I can think of a single thing to write about. Hey Connie, how about posting a few more questions. Just for old times sake… and just enough to get me through December!
No, Thank YOU. ANd You, and you, and you, and you, and you.
You all are a shining example of how things can and should be in this profession.
A happy and blessed Memorial Day to everyone, as we remember loved ones and strangers alike today with pride and gratitude.
