I am in awe of anyone who can write a book that I enjoy, no matter what the genre.  I don’t know why publishers try to force square pegs into round holes.  Personally, I always read a variety of genres.  I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy, but once I’ve gorged on that for awhile, I switch to historicals… and the lustier the better *g*.  My latest love (and I think another hot genre publishers may be pushing these days) are paranormals.  But I digress… I think that there’s room for all the genres and you all should write to your strengths.  I’ll always be there to enjoy the fruits of your labors!  I bet other readers feel the same.

I agree with Colleen RE writing to your strengths. I’ll read and reccommend a good story, regardless of the setting/author. Having said that, I’ll admit that I find certain settings/situations to provide better reading escapes than others. Historicals (any time period) are a prime example.

Well, I can only hope that an author writes what is true to her voice & resists the editor/publisher feels is more marketable. Naive of me I’m sure.

BTW- thanks for “turning on” the comments (lol). You’ve become a regular stop on my daily rounds.

Every once in a while I will attempt a contemporary.  All my friends keep encouraging me to write one, stating that I’ll sell faster, that they’re quicker to write...but every time I do, they fall flat.  To me, there’s something magical about a historical.  When I’m writing about a hunky knight or a sexy earl, something sparkles.  I say, whatever makes you happy is what you should write.

I love that you are still writing in 1807… :O). I love sports stories too, that’s for sure.. SEP and Rachel Gibson are a few favs… but, I can’t get enough of the regency either…

Sincerely,

I can’t write a contemporary romance to save my life. Historical or Chick-Lit? Definitely. I’m odd in that I only think and write it terms of a sweeping historical romances or a witty or paranormal chick-lit. *G*
