Okay everyone, repeat after me...HOT DISH IS A GREAT BOOK!! <g> Don’t want to repeat it? Just read it and THEN let’s talk. I got to read & review it and I LOVE it!  5-Stars, Connie, really!! wink

Fawn Creek reminds me of many small towns in many states - the characters alone could be fodder for 100 more stories.

Connie:

Any chance we might recognize the inspiration for your hero after we read the book?

Hate not knowing, like who was “You’re So Vain” really about? Mick Jagger or, or, damn can’t think of who else it was rumored to be about.

Connie said, “I’ve been trying to tell you that I like warm and fuzzy fine.”

Sure. And she keeps a secret copy of THE SOUND OF MUSIC in her DVD player for those wonderful evenings when she’s drinking hot cocoa and snuggling with her favorite teddy bear.

Puleaze.

Connie,
Didn’t you somewhere say that Steve Jaax was similar to Harry from As you Desire. Could you or Kitty elaborate? I’ve just started Hot Dish and all I can say is that I clearly know nothin about Minnesota! I love the book so far!!

AH, Manuelita--- not Bruce Willis!

And J SPerry, did I tell you???

And yes, I’ll reveal my template in a couple weeks. But you guys gave me a great idea for tomorrow’s blog (I get two days becasue of the release of HOT DISH)---UNLIKELY HEROES.

Christina, there is a huge difference between maudlin and sentimental. One m,ight say a mountain, As in “climb every.”

Kitty doesn’t know how to spell Donny Osmund?? Wow. There’s a shock.

J Perry Stone said...

No, but I wrote you an email after reading Hot Dish and said thank you for making Steve Jaax look like him.  Was I right?

And he has a friend named Fry.

Yes??

And seriously, with your descriptive skills, how could I not know?  (but boy will I laugh if I’m wrong tongue laugh )

Ok, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to submit two names, but I’m going to anyway:

My first guess was George Clooney (cause of the age factor) and he’s really quirky in a suave and sexy way.

My second guess is John Cusack. He’s quirky enough to make a bust out of butter and call it art. And he’s 40 + too.

No one’s got him yet-- including you, J Perry!! (maybe in looks you have him-- but the attitude is all a particular actor, HINT: actor and comedian)

Nearhere, Steve is like Harry in AYD, in the way he doesn’t really understand his appeal to women. He knows it’s there, he may even take advanatge of it, but he doesn’t understand why. Of course, we know why-- these are heroes who sincerely LIKE women.

Hope you enjoy the book!

Liz has way too much of an inside track here becasue she knows how I loved Bubba Hotep (did you know Briuce Campbell is doing a prequel to Bubba Hotep? With the same Elvis character?)

Actor and comedian....that’s tough.  Dan Ackroyd. I loved him in ‘Ghostbusters’.  Or is he too old? oh wait, he’s Canadian, isn’t he??  James Belushi?  He’s a little younger and American.  This is tough.

I guess I’ve been out of the U.S. too long. The only American comic over 50 that I can think of who’d make a good hero is Robin Williams. Come on, admit you loved him in “Mrs. Doubtfire” and were hoping Pierce Brosnan would get the shaft. (’Course I’d definitely keep Robin on his meds all the time!)

William Shatner?

(It’s the only actor/comedian I could think of from Iron Chef. He was nice looking when he was around 50).

{author}'s avatar Dannyfiredragon said...

My first guess would also have been George Clooney, but my second guess is Dennis Quaid. That’s a wild guess because I don’t know so many actors over 50. Oh there is one more Steve Martin

I have a few guesses:

Harrison Ford
Kevin Costner
Jeff Bridges
Pierce Brosnan
Liam Neeson
Richard Gere
Dennis Quaid
John Travolta
Kevin Kline
William Shatner
Michael Burger

That’s all I’ve got and I hope it’s not William Shatner...he freaks me out haha.

Interesting, I googled 50, comedian, actor, and Iron Chef, and I got William Shatner. Is that it? Although for some Jerry Seinfeld popped into my mind and won’t leave. So, I guess that is my guesses:
1. William Shatner
2. Jerry Seinfeld.

Iron chef???  Connie!!  I’m freaking right out over here.

Ok, he’s not an actor nor a comedian (though I think he’s funny). But he is on Iron Chef America: Bobby Flay. I absolutely adore him, in the take off your shirt while you barbeque that pineapple kind of way.

He’s not it, is he? I’m going to spend the whole day thinking about this.

I’m seriously dreading it might be William Shatner…

Other guesses from Iron Chef (though I don’t see either of them as a leading man, but you never know):
Ted Allen
Alton Brown

I was going to go with Alton Brown too, but after doing some brief research (and considering I no longer have cable nor have I read Hot Dish) I’ve narrowed my list of names to the following:

Anthony Bourdain
Dan Smith
George Duran
Marc Summers
Mark Daracasos
Peter Marr

After all this, I really need to read HD

I’m with you Arnal and Jennifer. I haven’t read Hot Dish yet either (which is wuite possibly evident by my posts), so I’m guessing based on the clues Connie gave in the post.

Hoping it’s Todd English, though. He’s darn good looking. And he cooks - really well evidently. That’s always a plus, right? I now have to go see if I can check out Iron Chef over winter break. smile

Is this contest still on?  Well based on Connie’s interview with Michelle Buonfiglio where Connie says, “Steve Jaax is the ultimate ‘guy’—charming, egocentric, guileless, a little confused, blunt and self-confident” and “Lamont Cranston” and the above blog, I am now guessing that Hot Dish’s hero is based on Alec Baldwin.
