Liz, I love La Musique Française. Because, well.... I’m French.  I mostly know the artists coming out of Québec as I grew up there. (now living in Ontario)

Francis Cabrel is my all time favourite singer.  He was born near Toulouse and has been making a career of signing since 1974 when he won a radio talent show (one of those early American Idol).

His songs just take me away to a world of peace and tranquillity.  I play his ‘Best Of’ album whenever I feel the need to relax.

I will definitely look Carla Bruni and “Quelqu’un m’a dit” up.  Thank you for the review.

Carla Bruni entered the French music scene with a big boom e few years ago with this album but we haven’t heard from her since so I’m not sure we’ll get another cd by her.

French music has changed over the past few years and we have some really good stuff now.

I’d also recommend The wonderful Caravane by Raphael. You can listen to an extract at Amazon: http://www.amazon.fr/Caravane-Raphael/dp/B0007RV9UQ Just copy and paste the link. The whole CD is wonderful.

La femme Chocolat by Olivia Ruiz is also great and you can listen to extracts on amazon also

There’s also Kyo, Indochine--’J’ai demandé à la lune’ is particularly gorgeous.

Plenty of good stuff :o)

I love French music! I’ll definitely check out Carla Bruni. I’m a bit out of touch with the current stuff but I find the older stuff just sends shivers up my spine. Charles Trenet singing ‘La Mer’ is one of life’s great experiences (much sexier than Bobby Darin’s ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ which was the English language version). I partly think it’s the sound of the language itself which makes French songs so special. Thanks, Liz.

I"m buying it: one for me and one for my sister (who’s fluent in French) for a x-mas present.

You know what, Liz, to steal Santa’s words, “YOU ROCK.” In fact, that what we should call these.  Another page from Liz Rocks.  You truly do.

Hey Liz,
Lovely blog(s) They book recommendation and the music!  I went many years ago to a concert of Edith Piaf music, and most of that was in French!  You know, (I was single then) that was a good way to meet some French speaking male listeners!  wink
Um, nice avi, J.Perry..
