We considered the Wii at our house, too.  Briefly.  We’re going to have to wait for the next round.  I was told by a guy at a gaming store that the next group is tentively set for early Dec.  So good luck!

I saw Robert Cray in concert years ago.  He was great!  Fantastic guitar player.

Thanks, Carolyn. Back atcha. I’m just glad my son doesn’t believe in Santa anymore, because it’s a lot easier to explain supply and demand than it is to explain how Santa’s magic workshop ran out of magic.

I was standing right next to a huge display of Elmo TMX the day it came out, having no idea what was in the strange box. Came home and heard all the hoopla about it, saw how dang cute it is, went back the next day.......nuff said downer

Someone in my past was into Robert Cray, it may have been my college roomate.

My favorite “I didn’t get what I wanted” song is THAT’S LIFE by Frank Sinatra.  Nobody can feel your pain like Frankie, baby! wink

Liz, try the electronics stores. They are getting twice as much as mass retailers. Also, when I was merchandising video games the nintendo rep told me there would be plenty out by Christmas.

Good luck!

Santa’s workshop ran out of magic? Liz, you’ve broken my heart!

All it takes is that hoopla, Tami, to bring down a nation.  And thanks for the tip, Kim! I’m hopeful that, by Christmas, we’ll be able to get our hands on one. If not, as Terri said, “That’s life.” grin

Welll, it could just be that the magic is running a little low, Xtina. Ask me again if I don’t get a Wii before Christmas…

Oh, how funny. My code word is had22. I think that was how many Target had…

Can’t you order the Wii from online?

11/19  at  04:42 PM

{author}'s avatar Elizabeth Bevarly said...

Alas, no, Janelle. There are only limited supplies, and they sold out within minutes of going on sale today. No one’s even taking pre-orders anymore. They’re going on eBay now for twice or more than their retail price, which ain’t exactly cheap to begin with. There’s evidently going to be another wave, but no one can quite say when or how many there will be available then. I’ve had a few tips from people, but it’s all rumor and innuendo, so…

Stay tuned. I’m sure there will be a holiday blog in this somewhere.  wink

I didn’t get specfic numbers on the wii but I did get the PS3 numbers directly from Sony. 400,000 inital shipment and 800,000 by X-mas. I’m certain Nintendo’s put out more than that.
FYI, when stuff like this goes out to Wal-marts it goes out to most Wal-marts. If mine gets it, yours gets it.

One of the GameStop people I talked to, Kim, said Nintendo was going to put out four million, and she said there should be no trouble for anyone wanting one to have one by Christmas. But now that there’s this huge hoopla going on, I’m afraid lots of people are going to scarf them up with the specific intention of selling them for big bucks on eBay. Sigh.

I’m laughing again, because this time my code word is stock24. Yeah, that’s the problem. They need to stock more. LOL

I’ve never had any sort of video game system.  big surprise, I know.

I previewed this post and my verification words sounded like some commercial: ‘makes35’ ‘seem34’. LOL!

That’s exactly why the stores are limiting sales of the Elmo TMX to one per person. To avoid mass-purchasing to sell on ebay. So, it seems that the powers-that-be at least attempt to deal with this problem.

Liz, a big thank you to you for doing these Sunday music blogs. I’ve discovered so much great music here.

The warm summer day when Bill Clinton visited Seattle to promote his memoir, people camped out the night before in tents and sleeping bags. I thought that was over the top. I showed up the next day and got the same autographed book.

However, those people you saw sleeping outside Target in freezing temperatures are downright crazy. Willing to risk perma frost on their, um, parts for an electronic gizmo.

You’re welcome, Keira! Thank YOU for liking them. grin

I agree--there are many things about which I am passionate. But at my age, that passion can only be manifested in warm, comfortable surroundings.  wink

No comment on the electronics..

Love the blues, though, Liz..how about putting Robert Cray and Alanis Morrisette in a room togther! She could say a few things about cheaters!
His guitar work reminds a bit of ol’ Stevie Ray Vaughn (RIP) in a jazzy /bluesy way.

Liz, I just love jazz and love the blues.  Robert Cray is on my play list when I start to clean and then build up to my disco hits.  Great choice, Liz.

Thank goodness I live in a tiny town with a Wal-Mart Supercenter; I managed to get a Wii and I only had to wait in line from around 7:00pm until midnight.  I was #3, but by the time midnight rolled around all of the 19 systems were spoken for.  They didn’t even make us wait outside, either.

Then, naturally, the very next day my son announces he wants a PS3.  But I finally talked him around to admitting that he wants the Wii more.  Hehe.  From what I’ve read, the PS3s were rushed out so fast that there are some bugs that haven’t been worked out.  The display at Wal-Mart even froze up while my son was playing it.  I’m going to wait before I risk that.

When my 17 year old daughter offered to gather some of her high school friends (guys and girls) and take her 12 year old brother to camp out at Target the night before the launch, I was hesistant, but glad I did.  They had a ball. My son said it was worth the night out in the cold to get his Wii.

I didn’t sleep a wink as you can imagine, but I didn’t let them know that.  A week later, they’re still re-hashing the stories.
