SATURDAY BOOK BLOG: In Which Teresa Brings You Even MORE Bitter Chickens to Enjoy

Ha Ha Teresa, these look so funny! Innocent little peeps, indeed!
-I love anything by the late, great Louis Grizzard..he was a southerner (and I married one) and his humor pre-dates Jeff Foxworthy’s ‘redneck’ stuff...we bring the books on tape when we are in the car, and I think people kinda look at us funny when we are driving!
These books look wonderfully funny. I will check them out at B&N this afternoon. (I have the afternoon all to myself)
When I was in high school, a friend loaned me a book to read in study hall. I got kicked out of study hall for outbursts of laughter while reading. It was “Aunt Erma’s Cope Book: How to get from Monday to Friday in 12 Days.” Erma Bombeck’s books were amazing at that time. I’ve always admired her; she left this earth way too soon.
I also collected Lynn Johnston’s comic books all through my early twenty’s. She draws the “For Better or Worse” comic strip. She’s the only female comic artist that has allowed her characters to age and grow. Her humor kept me going thru the rough spots of toddlers and kids who are not perfect.
Have a wonderful day everybody!
There’s another great picture book out there along the same lines (but not the bitterness) - It’s called Adventures of Cow, by Cow. A little plastic cow goes on a great adventure through the barnyard and home again. It’s extremely silly, which is, of course, why I like it.
PS - Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!
I love Tanen’s books. She has a new one, about motherhood. Nothing is safe; everything is funny.
I have been told by my children that I can NOT read anything by Carl Hiassen when I am in public with them (on an airplane, waiting at the dentist...) because I embarrass them with my uncontrolled laughter. The same prohibition goes for listening to WAIT WAIT, DON’T TELL ME on my iPod.
Now Eloisa, you know that in my family, merciless teasing was always the greatest sign of affection. I WUV YOU!!!
I loved Erma Bombeck. Started reading her when I was just a girl. (You know--last week.)
::snort:: Teresa, all the chickens are blonde. I think we all know who these shallow, conceited chicks remind us of. um-hm
I downloaded Bill Cosby and Bob Newhart’s classic comedy routines from iTunes and take them on the plane when I fly. Put on the headphones, listen and laugh. As the other crazed passengers edge away, I always think --what a great way to get a few precious minutes alone.
I don’t know what you’re talking about, Xtina (Teresa said, fluffing her downy blond hair)
"Sgt. Piggy’s Lonely Hearts Club Comic” A Pearls before Swine collection.
I love Pastis and his twisted sense of humor.
I have to throw my hat in for Erma. I read “Happily Married or Too Tired to Have an Affair” and I loved it.
I would also encourage “Couplehood” by Paul Reiser and if you are not easily offended, and I mean it takes ALOT to offend you, I would say anything by Rodney Carrington. Yes, he’s the guy that had that sitcom for a while but his comedy is nothing like that show really. It’s some of the filthiest stuff I’ve ever heard but I laugh so hard I almost coughed up a lung.
And that Coco character sounds way to much like my child......
My favorite funny books are by Donald E. Westlake. He writes the John Dortmonder caper novels. There are about a group of small time crooks whose capers never go according to plan. They are laugh out loud funny.
This is amazing! It’s daylight and I’m posting!
More cool books to buy! They sound like a hoot. Ihaven’t read any rib ticklers lately but I love PD Wodehouse. I can’t get enough of Jeeves!
OMG are these this chicks from the SAK purse/pocketbook ads? In the magazines? I LOVE THEM. I WANT THESE. I HAD NO IDEA THEY HAD BOOKS!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, Carly, those are the same chickens! They need to do more marketing with them. I want calendars! I want coffee cups!!!
Skippyjon Jones in the Doghouse by Judy Schachner...it is lol funny about a siamese kitty who thinks he’s a chihuahua
Judith Viorst’s “It’s hard to be hip over 30” is so funny… and truthful!
One of the funniest, and most satirical books I’ve ever read is William Goldman’s “The Princess Bride”. As wonderful as the movie with Cary Elwes and Robin Wright-Penn is, the book is ever so much better.
You’re lucky I don’t fluff my feathers and fly the coop, Teresa! All these insults…
but I will admit that I loved the chickie book you gave me…
