Liz - You absolutely ROCK!  I love your music blogs because you have introduced me to so many fantastic musical artist I would have missed otherwise.  I just went to iTunes and listened to this album (geez, I’m dating myself, huh).  This CD, I mean and you just made a purchase for them and a fan out of me.  You’re right.  Every song is different and has a different mood.  I am a lover of Indie music, because a) the artists are doing it there way, b) the music seems more pure somehow (i.e. less commercial) and c) I love the spirit of doing what you love no matter what.

Keep rockin and bringing us knew artists to experience.  It’s much appreciated by this Squawk fan.

Thanks, Deborah!  I’m glad you’re enjoying the music blogs, ‘cause I love to write ‘em.  smile Totally agree with you about indie music, too.  Those bands do it for the sheer love of it.

And thanks for the good wishes on the transition.  It’s both scary and exciting, but mostly exciting.  Next year will be an interesting one…

And off-topic, HAPPY DERBY DAY, EVERYBODY!  I’m spending the day with the TV tuned to local coverage, then later we’ll fire up the grill and make some mint juleps.  (Not that we’ll drink them, on account of I’m not especially fond of them.  I’ll have a glass of wine.  But it’s tradition, so...)

I’ll wrap up by saying, Go Scat Dadddy, go!

Oops.  I meant Go Scat Daddy, go!  I don’t think he needs the extra d there.  (Jeez, and I haven’t even had any mint juleps.)

Liz, you write about music with a lyrical beauty that’s always inspiring and and sigh-inspiring, too.

I’m listening to “My Mathematical Mind” right now on Amazon even as I type. I can hear that Beattle accent loud and clear. What a gorgeous cover, isn’t it? And so representative of their sound.

Thanks, Liz. You always have the best suggestions.

As I second J Perry’s request for more soundtracks, please.

Liz, I wish you all the best for the big changes you’re making in your career. Big changes can be scary but exciting, too. New beginnings, zero baggage, etc.  smile

DH and I watched STRANGER THAN FICTION a few weeks ago.  We both loved it and thinking back, the sound track was just right.

Thanks for bringing us new music to try each week.

Best of luck with your transition.  It’s very obvious from your books and blogs that you’re an intelligent, talented woman with a wonderful sense of humor who will be successful in whatever direction you choose to go.  And as Deborah said, we’ll all be behind you!

My word is now49.  Okay, let’s not rush this aging thing.

Oh, and for indie music lovers:  we have an excellent program on our local NPR station.  The host plays new music of every kind.  If anyone is interested in streaming it:

For anyone that doesn’t have a similar program in your area, this is really good!

Liz said:  “...I’m at a real turning point in my career at the moment where a lot is changing, and there’s a lot of potential, and I think that’s been scaring me and making me hesitate in some ways.”

What do I always say to you Liz?--that we’re on the same wavelength (presumptuous though that may be to say).

I feel like I too am in transition and today I just read a thing that said: “when you stop resisting experience (meaning all the stuff other than what we think we prefer), what remains is the bliss of sheer nothingness.  And everything that is possible lives in that nothingness ("nothingness"--eastern philosophy speak for what Depak Chopra calls “the space between the thoughts).”

I totally read your quoted lyrics to say the exact same thing.

“My mathematical mind can see the breaks
so I’m gonna stop riding the brakes...”

You’re killing my CD budget though hmmm

Carolyn - evil, just evil.  I love to be musically adventurous and Liz’s Saturday blogs, plus this NPR station is going to push me over the edge.  Thank you.

J Perry - sing it sister.  Ceasing to resist an experience can truly be magical.  And, from what little I know about Liz and you, you both seem to have a wonderful family/community base who will support and hold you up through your walk.  Remember to breathe through any butterflies in your stomach or hesitancy in your step.  And do not forget, to reach out to those who love you best and selflessly.  They will help you through any scary moment.  I appreciate and honor both of your honesty and vulnerablities.  Know that you are not alone.

Ah Liz, the 40’s such a time of change, isn’t it? Teen -agers and nostalgia.  An artistic leap is indeed a leap of faith, especially if the platform you are leaping off from has been a sucessful one. My dear, can I say out of sheer audacity, do it! No ride is free, and as I have found out, people want to pigeon hole you continuously, but it is so worth it.  Art demands it!

Thank you, Liz and Carolyn for the indie plug. I love love it.

Sorry to be tuning in so late.....I got to go out today (finally) and see my son compete in musical competition with his trombone.

Liz, I have to tell you a story, last Monday my daughter said she had the opportunity to go to the plex on Tuesday and see the group “Bowling for Soup”. I wasn’t sure about it but something nagged at me that I had seen that somewhere recently, and it was one of your music blogs.

If it had not been for your musical education, I would not have known they were a real group.

I wish you happiness and a smooth transition with the changes you want to make.  Let us know if we can assist you in any way.

Well, dang. You guys say the nicest things.  Thanks for all the encouraging words, everyone. And I’m glad I’ve been encouraging in some small way, too.

Okay, it’s Derby day, and I’ve doubtless had way too much wine to drink, but I was listening today, too, to an old Blues Traveler song, a lyric that said, “No matter what the waitress brings, I will drink it and always be full.” I think that’s it in a nutshell.  Whatever I get in life, both professionally and personally, I need to quaff it and get the most from it, regardless.  Y’all being the creative types, you know what that means.  And damned if it isn’t nice, being around people who understand that.

You guys are the best!  (And I really do think I’ve had more than enough wine for the evening...) gulp

Even sober, I still think you guys say the nicest things.  So there.

Sarah, you’re so sweet to still be speaking to me when I still haven’t sent you a proper thank you note for the last CD you sent.  (It’s getting even more play now that the weather is warm.  Thank you again.)

Alas, I only have one book out this year, now that HQN has postponed the final OPUS book AGAIN.  I’ll be out with a new Desire in July, then nothing until next spring.  But April will bring my first book for Berkley, and then the first two OPUS books will be reissued in May and June, and the final one will be out in July.  I’ll also be launching a continuity for Silhouette in there somewhere--June, I think.  You guys are going to be sick of me by next summer.

I’d LOVE to meet you in NY sometime.  We’re kindasorta thinking about making a fall trip up there, but it’s still in the planning stages.  I’ll for sure let you know if/when I’m coming, though.  It’d be so great to meet other Squawk visitors!
