Teresa Invites Any Number of Men to Whisper Sweet Nothings in Her Ear
99 Comments
Teresa:
I’m righ there with you and accents. And I have been drooling over Sawyer since I first laid eyes on him, but…
How about Desmond? I’m not much for him when he’s all cleaned up and shaved, but, like in the most recent eppisode where he’s hunting with the delicous Sawyer, all scruffy and intense and his soft Scottish voice says somethin...Ahhhh, I’m in love.
Of course, you can’t get much better than Dr. Kovac.
Cheers.
I’m sorry, Teresa--did you not know that Alan and I have an understanding, should my own darling hubby become stranded on a remote island local....
Actually, the timbre of my own husband’s voice can make me weak in the knees…
And I would adore Liam Neeson and Sting if they looked like wart frogs. It’s the knowledge of what they would sound like whispering your name in the dark…
Goodness, I’m wide awake now! Another cup of tea, please.
Lisa G., I haven’t seen Season 3 of LOST yet (I’m waiting for the DVD) but Desmond definitely intrigued me in Season 2.
And I left off one of my favorite LOST boys-Sayid! Yummy!
I spend way too long addicted to STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION because of Patrick Stewart’s voice. And it’s defintely a big part of Sean Connery’s appeal - no matter what the age, the voice is the last to go.
I wonder if women’s voices affect men the same way their voices do us. I’ve never heard my husband compliment a women’s voice among her other, uhm, assets.
I gotta second the vote for Sean Connery. He could whisper the phone book in my ear and I would go all soft and mushy!!!
And what about James Earl Jones (THIS is CNN!)?? Deep, deep voices seem to do something to my insides . . .
Sam Elliott’s low, gravelly voice fulfills every cowboy fantasy I’ve ever had. Even his commercial voice-overs make me hot!
Ahh! Thanks for this, Teresa, needed a little daydream..men who can read me a bedtime story anytime!
-I second (third) Alan Rickman, yeah! Snape!
-Definitely the DH, he’s a southerner, and yes, had me at hello!
-Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, I was watching a music show, where he was interviewed, and about dropped my cereal bowl in my lap.
-Any and all of U2, Kiss that blarney stone, indeed!
-I was up way too late a while ago and caught Craig Ferguson on the Late show, he had Billy Connonly on there, and it was like a Scot fest, all kinds of brouge-ish going around. I felt way better after!
Dennis Haysbert (currently on The Unit, used to be the Prez on 24) has a great deep voice. His co-star on The Unit, Max Martini (Mack), has a wonderful gravelly voice that would make me melt if he whispered in my ear.
And I absolutely adore NASCAR driver Elliot Sadler’s Virginia accent, y’all.
Yes, Sayid is yummy! Did you see hiim in the English Patient? with all that long hair. To die for.
Ah, so many voices so little time! There was a guy in my high school who I could have listened to all day. His voice was so deep and resonant I can still hear it now. In most other ways he was a pretty average guy but that VOICE!
I have a friend who was born in England but has lived in Australia since he was a teen. His voice is such a lovely combination of the two accents and so unique.
Russell Crowe doesn’t even have to speak but when he does no matter what accent he uses he sounds completely yummy. I loved the voice he used for Captain Aubrey.
My husband has a southern accent though it isn’t very heavy, but the way he says “darlin” *sigh*
Believe it or not, my husband ranks as Number One in the voice category for sexiness, and not because I’m a devoted wife, or not JUST because I’m a devoted wife. He’s The Velvet around here.
But, since I’m not willing to share him, Gerard Butler of 300 fame, and before that, Phantom of the O--that would be Opera (let’s keep it clean, shall we?) His Scottish brogue in that soothing deep baritone...and then when he sings Music of the Night..yeah, I’d go to the Dark Side with him!
The actor who plays Mohinder on “Heroes” has a beautiful, buttery voice. He could recite the telephone book and I’d never be bored!
Mmm...Sean Connery...yes! Yes! YES!...Sorry, got carried away.
But also, another who doesn’t even have to open his mouth, but when he does I melt, is Matthew McConaughey. Sigh. In a cowboy hat with no shirt would be good, too.
I like James Earl Jones, too. Butta, dahlin’, butta.
Lisa G, would you believe I’ve never seen THE ENGLISH PATIENT? Must add it to my Netflix queue.
Claudia, We finally saw the “300” last night and I loved it that you could hear Gerard Butler’s Scottish accent so plainly.
Avery, I didn’t mention my beloved Russell but I adore the timbre of his voice! I was listening to one of his CD’s yesterday and he sings exactly like he talks, especially in the slow stuff. Talk about melting!
And Sam Elliot is definitely a voice for all seasons. I’ve loved him since I saw him in LIFEGUARD when I was about 12. Adored him in TOMESTONE talking to his “Mattie Girl"..."I’ll still have one good arm to hold you with”...sigh…
I’ll take an Irish accent. I think Jonathon Rhys-Meyers is Irish. He could read me the phone book, and I’d get excited!
Also, Hugh Laurie when he’s not being Dr. House. Part of it is his sense of humor, but mostly is that upper crust British accent.
Yummy!
Well, on pure voice, I’d have to say Alan Rickman. Talk about velvet. Even when he’s hissing malevolently as Snape, it still sounds like sex. For the accent/voice combo, though, I’d go with Ewan McGregor. He absolutely kills me with that Scottish slang.
Sam Elliot! How could I have forgotten him? His voice is amazing. I fell for him in “Connager”, a Louis L’Amour novel made into a surprisingly good movie with a soulful romance at its heart. Sam’s lovely wife, Katherine Ross, plays his soul mate. If you like westerns or Sam or romance, this movie is a must-see.
Liam Neeson, Sean Connery, Rupert Graves--sigh! Also, I wholeheartedly agree with ladydawgfan that James Earl Jones has the most marvelous voice, as does Sidney Poitier.
And I blush to admit that Conway Twitty’s “Hello, Darlin’” could make me melt.
My husband has a wonderfully, deep and warm voice - the sexiest I’ve ever heard. BUT, since that doesn’t help in terms of your poll, Teresa *G*...
...I’m going to have to offer up Christian Bale as the man, aside from my DH, who has the sexiest voice. I usually enjoy his movies, but I’d even listen to him read a phone book out loud, LOL.
Christian Bale *does* have one attribute of voice my husband doesn’t however. CB has that amazing range of accents. I’m not sure what his native accent sounds like, as he maintains whatever accent he uses in a film for every interview and promotion associated with it - so it’s tough to tell. I know he’s Welsh, but he has such a range of regional nuances that I’ll be darned if I know which is really him.
Regardless, he wins for me in terms of sexiest voice of someone famous (and the rest of him doesn’t hurt either, LOL).
--MRM
Hmmm… I’ll second some of the earlier choices, Russell Crowe, Alan Rickman, Gerard Butler, Sam Elliott, Patrick Stewart… and I’ll add Thorsten Kaye
Oh my, I love, love, love The Dresden Files! but I had no idea that Paul Blackthorne was English...mmm...I’ve gotta admit it takes him up a rung on the Yummy Ladder.
I love the scene in Love Actually where the kid is trying to explain to his friend that he has to go to America, because at home he’s nothing but a nobody slob, but in America the women will find him exotic and sexy just because of his accent.
Oh Sydney Poitier! I just saw TO SIR WITH LOVE again the other day and he was such a prince among men--both in voice and form. And Oprah had him on last week at 80 and he hadn’t lost an ounce of his dignity or attractiveness!
And I’ve adored Christian Bale’s voice since I saw EMPIRE OF THE SUN when he was just a kid. I just saw THE PRESTIGE the other night and his performance was absolutely ferocious. Loved him as “Laurie” in LITTLE WOMEN too.
Teresa, I’m with you about Russell. His voice was one of the first things that attracted me to him. Here is something that I found on Youtube, Russell singing a song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIzxoITH2Hg&mode=related&search
I could watch that over and over.
Without a doubt, Patrick Stewart wins hands down for me on “the voice”. I have his rendition of “A Christmas Carol” on tape and I love it!
Gerard Butler comes in second when he lets that wonderful brogue come out. Yum.
I miss my Dad’s voice the most. He had a fabulous North Carolina accent and was most commanding when he spoke about his faith in God, politics or the Atlanta Braves. I really miss him .
Hugh Jackman makes me want to swoon just to look at him, but add the accent and I’m toast.
And Thorsten Kaye! I love to hear him talk. OH, and the guy who plays EJ on Days of Our Lives! Between the two of them my lunch hour is heavenly.
TOBY STEPHENS definitely. YouTube him and you’ll agree. It’s the sexiest voice I’ve ever heard.
I agree with Mary Reed on Christian Bale’s voice. And Alan Rickman both as Snape and Colonel Brandon. And I loathe to admit it, but Colin Farrell’s Irish accent makes me weak in the knees. Too bad he’s such a man-whore.
I have to say that Ioan Gruffudd and his Welsh accent get me every time. And Matthew MacFadyen, “Mr. Darcy” has the Velvet. And they’re both easy on the eyes.
But, I have to say that my own hubby, who’s a radio announcer, has the Velvet also. That’s what I first fell in love with, his voice. I used to listen to him on the radio long before I met him, and he still sends a shiver up my spine when I hear him, even after 23 years of marriage.
Oh, you are absolutely right Teresa! Men with the right accent just seem so much sexier! It adds a depth of character and not to mention their voices just are more dreamy to hear. I love accents! I am in total agreement with Rhonda on Hugh Jackman. And Toby Stephens is pretty sexy with that Brit accent. *sigh*
I am a huge sucker for a British or Irish accent. I had a friend growing up that was from England and I could sit around listening to him talk all day! Until he refused to use/lost his accent. :(
Top of my list: Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I think that his accent is thicker in RL than in movies, because I’ve seen him do interviews and it seems the Irish lilt is much more pronounced when not in a film. Just thinking about him makes me drool? Anyone catch The Tudors. HOT.
Jude Law- Ok, obviously he’s not the smartest man in the world if he cheated on Sienna Miller (He and Huge must be buddies), but his voice is just the epitome of a sexy English accent to me. I adored him in The Holiday. yum yum!
*plans a night of movies filled with men with sexy accents*
Teresa, I agree! There are some yummy voices out there. And it just makes the package sweeter. Heh!
Rhonda, Hugh Jackman’s voice is ALMOST as sexy as he is. That faint Aussie twand and I’m melted buttah!
Alan Rickman, too. Oh my goodness—that deep voice! He made me cry in Sense and Sensibility. SUCH a deep, rich voice. Yummy!
And what about Oded Ferh who was the Arabian prince in THE MUMMY? What a SEXY voice he had. I was spellbound every time he walked onscreen.
mmm Christian Bale, Alan Rickman, Russel Crowe, Gerard Butler, Liam Neeson yes yes YES!!
I am such a voice gal, too. I especially fall in love with singing voices. Iain Glen and Matt Rawls both make me melt (from the musical Martin Guerre), Hugh Jackman of course, Harry Conick Jr., Christian Bale’s too, even though he was just a kid (a hot kid!) in Newsies.
and accents definitely get me every time. part of what made I Love Lucy so lovable was Desi Arnaz’s Cuban English (he could sing, too!). and what about Ralph Fiennes??!!!!
My DH has a voice I love, whether he’s yelling or whispering. As he has gotten older, it has gotten a little more smoky and rough, sexier all the way around.
out of the actors, Kiefer has done it for me since he was in “The Lost Boys”, Patrick took over with Star Trek and Riker’s voice isn’t hard on the ears either. Had never heard Russell sing before, so I watched the clip Billie posted...WOW...*sigh* yeah, uh...*note to self-- Buy album*
Love a Scots accent, Sean has been top of the list forever, right up there with Elvis, speaking more than singing, but I love that, too.
Ioan has that welsh accent, which fascinates me, because it might have been mine, had not my Nana’s family come to America long ago.
Snape is sexy but so is Lucius. And I have to agree again about Oded....he can melt me, eeeeeeeeennnnytime!
Too many men, too many voices....but so much FUN!
Lil
I’m with Teresa on this one. A man’s voice is at the top of the list for me, and I adore Alan Rickman for this reason alone. I swear he’ll say some totally non-sexual sentence like, “Hello” or “How are you?” but underlying in that magical voice of his, I hear, “Take off your clothes and lie on the couch” and “I’m about to make you very very happy”. Yes, yes, you are, Alan.
The Velvet...that’s a new one; and I do love Keifer’s whispering voice. He’s such a badass, but when he talks like that, you just want to start ripping off clothes!
Gosh, I have a problem with keeping my clothes on according to this post. My apologies for the TMI, guys.
Vin Diesel, who bless his heart, can’t really act--I totally fell for him in the worst way when he did XXX and The Fast and The Furious. Yum. That velvety, husky, gravelly purr he has...I get the same thrill as if I was riding in a fast car.
And Sawyer’s “Freckles” slays me every single time he does it. As does Hugh Grant. Good picks, Teresa!
Oh! Strange, I’m sure, but I find Michael Keaton’s voice fascinating. And I love to hear Gregory Peck and Cary Grant talk in their movies....
I am such a sucker for a deep voice… James Earl Jones all the way for me.
We have a very dear friend who has a deep voice like that, and twinkling blue eyes, and a bear hug that makes you just melt into him. I always thought it was a shame he hadn’t found that special someone (and that if my hubby ever left me, I’d be more than willing to be that someone LOL!), but then this past year he found her and married her and it is just the absolute best happily ever after story you’ve ever seen in real life.
Oh, God, Oded...yes, yes, yes...and Sayid too. And Hugh Jackman…
I need to step outside where it’s cold and fan myself. Please excuse.
Some of my favorite voices are:
James Earl Jones
Richard Burton
Patrick Stewart
Russell Crowe
Morgan Freeman (loved his narrations of Shawshank Redemption and March of the Penguins)
The voice that turns me into a puddle every time? My husband’s. My hubby is from northern England between Manchester and Liverpool. His accent is a cross between Paul McCartney and David Beckham. I think I’m going to give him a call right now just so I can melt a bit (even though I’m at work).
You go Ana Maria, I would too. Thank goodness for cell phones, lol, I can call my hubby anytime and hear his voice (He works outside, so if no cells, I’m out of luck)
Speaking of Sam Elliot, has ayone else seen Ghostrider yet> I swear he does not sound one but different and even Nicholas Cage was hot (in more ways than one!)
Morgan Freeman, and James Eal Jones, Cary Grant, Dean Martin, Tony Curtis...*sigh*
John Wayne is one I haven’t seen named yet....
Lil
Many years ago, I would put a Belafonte album on the stereophonic record player, turn out all of the lights, lay down in the middle of the floor, and lose myself in that pure, sexy voice.
James Earl Jones? Just close your eyes and slide right to heaven on that voice.
Mr Poitier. Such a fine FIIINNEE man.
And what about Pierce Brosnan?
Frank Sinatra. Love to listen to him sing.
I think my DH has the sexiest voice over the phone --- deep, intelligent, confident - always makes my toes curl. And I don’t think I’m biased because the ladies at work always loovved when he called looking for me, LOL!
Yep, Liam Neeson is at the top of my sexy voice list. Patrick Stewart, the guy who plays Desmond, Sam Elliot, Dennis Haysbert.... sigh.
And how funny, my confirmation word is “myself26”. I’ve been told many times I have a good “phone sex” voice. Still not sure if I like that or not. : )
Well, we could do Sexiest Women’s Voices but I’m afraid that would make us sound a little weird
(Well, except for our devoted male readers.)
Great blog, Teresa! Speaking of voices, I saw THE ILLUSIONIST last night. Who is that guy? Nice voice. Nice ... voice. And the SR readers are right about that kiss. Wow. I think I’ll dig it out of the Netflix envelop and watch it again. The kiss, I mean.
That’s Edward Norton, Xtina. And that’s interesting because I’m not sure his voice works 100% for me as a romantic hero. But it was a nice romance! Now you’ll have to watch THE PRESTIGE and compare. It’s less of a romance but I think I liked it better. I really liked them both though!
Edward Norton plays a Really Bad Guy in THE ITALIAN JOB.
THE PRESTIGE is next in my queue.
Did anyone see Alan Rickman in TRULY MADLY DEEPLY? Very romantic ... with the worst ending for a movie you’ve ever seen. I swear, the stupid movie would be a classic if the director/writer/whoever hadn’t decided to be clever (she said sarcastically) and screw up the ending.
TRULY MADLY DEEPLY is one of my all-time favorites but yes, I probably would have written the ending differently. But then again, I don’t know. His real purpose for being there made the movie really poignant.
I could watch that scene where they sing and play the piano and cello together every day!
Richard Armitage! He has an incredible voice, rather rough with a wonderful northern british accent. He is easy on the eyes too, but the voice? That´s his capital IMO.
David Tennant Not so much dark and manly, but incredibly energetic and if he speaks his natural accent (scottish) I am simply melting.
Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan are getting even hotter looking and sounding as they get older.
Naveen Andrews/Sayid fans should see him in Bride and Prejudice(the Bollywood answer to Pride and Prejudice) he sings and dances
Gerard Butler- I just ordered Attila and Beowulf and Grendel with him in it. More running about with all that armor clinking and sword swinging
Michael Palin as the virtuous Sir Galahad in Monty Python and the Holy Grail Christopher Lambert in Greystoke and Highlander
Liam Neeson in High Spirits was sexy even when he squished
Antonio Banderas- muy caliente Zoro
Patrick Lawlor narrating Suzanne Brockmann’s audiobooks is too sexy and funny kind of like Bill Paxton in Aliens and
Andrew Napier narrating the Lymond chronicals by Dorothy Dunnett
and my husband of course when he speaks Swedish (or English) to me I feel like Jamie Lee Curtis’s character in A Fish Called Wanda
Alan Rickman and Ewan MacGregor both make my knees weak, but I think for me the best voice of them all, is Anthony Hopkins. Positively terrifying at Hannibal Lecter, but as CS Lewis in Shadowlands, he just melted my heart. And don’t even talk to me about his Merchant Ivory films!!! Mmmm, I think I need to leave work early today....
Has anyone seen Grey’s Anatomy? What about Denny Duquette?
*snickers* my word was longer69…
Richard Armitage in Robin Hood and the wonderful BBC North & South. Any accent would do!
And too funny! I just read that Paul Blackthorne on THE DRESDEN FILES is British but playing American while Terrence Mann, who plays British ghost Bob, is from Kentucky!
Oh definitely Jude Law - I just rewatched The Holiday just to hear his voice (okay, and to see him, too).
And I love Colin Farrell’s accent - his Irish brogue is so dead-on sexy. I’d forgive him anything.
I like deep voices. Alec Baldwin has a very sexy and distinctive voice. I love listening to him. Everything he says sounds sexy. Clive Owen has a wonderfully deep voice too.
I also love the Scottish accent. Gerard Butler makes me melt. His voice is nice and deep too. Ewan McGregor also has a good voice but not as deep. As a plus, both of these guys have an excellent singing voice.
I once saw “Phantom” preformed in Cleveland, OH and the guy that was singing the part of the phantom turned me into a puddle. I didn’t even need to see his face to be so attracted to him. It was sort of weird that it was just his voice that did that to me. But it was amazing.
OMG...I definitely agree about Sam Elliott, Matthew McConaughey (sp?) and Pierce Brosnan.
They could read the phone book out loud and I’d be happy!
Hi girls,
Greetings from Spain. I’d like your blog a lot.
Talking about sexiest voices in English:
Colin Firth, the best Darcy ever been.
Wentworth Miller when he speaks, better said when he wishpers I feel in heaven.
Paul Newman in “Cat on a hot tin roof”, the most handsome man in the world
Ewan MacGregor, he can sing too!
And sexiest voices in Spanish, we love Argentinian accent, so:
Leonardo Sbaraglia 10 points.
And don`t forget the Italians, they are so romantic and the Italian language is so sweet so let’s choose Daniele Liotti
Ladies! I’ve been scrolling thru all the above comments. And I do agree very much with all of the men mentioned. However........
I looked and looked. Not one of you mentione Colin Firth. For me, he was, is and always will be Mr. Darcy. The guy in the movie version just didn’t do it for me.
I do believe I need to spend the rest of the afternoon watching “Pride and Prejudice”. Again.
There’s goes my session of fondling fabric.
Fondling fabric??? I’d much rather be fondling Colin Firth!!
(Darn it!! There goes my good behavior badge AGAIN!!)
BTW, my word is private36. Now if I could just get Colin in private for 36 minutes . . .
I’m baaack...great voices, ladies. I think I agree with all of you! *wiping the drool off just thinking of ‘em all*
My hubby and I call it the DMRV--Deep Manly Radio Voice. You know, the ones who could keep you calm while vectoring you into the airport from 30,000 feet in the storm of the century, even though you’ve never flown in your life! I’ve heard a few from the cockpit (no pun intended!) and somehow you know they’ll keep you safe.
BTW, mine is work67
I guess it’s telling me something...get back to the keyboard...no, no, the one that does NOT have internet...slinking off…
Wow! Lots of posts today. Everyone said all my favorite British, Irish and Scottish accents. The only one not mentioned was Anthony Hopkins. I love listening to him. He’s so classy.
Have you heard “Josh Turner” singing “Just to be your man”?
Or ANYTHING sung by “Barry White”?
(I know my age is showing with that comment)
As for accents, I have to go with the Scottish one, mmmmm.
But the kind of voice that really shivers my insides are the really deep ones, some of which have been mentioned, but I’d like to add Tone Loc, despite the fact that when I think of his voice I think of either the Funky Cold Medina or the lizard thing in Ferngully....
Ooo, forgot to include Sir Anthony. And I also love Scottish accents such as John Hannah and Ken Stotts.
Don’t ask me why, but I find women with Irish accents so soothing, I could listen to them speak all day.
Ooooh, Josh Turner! I forgot about him....what a fabulous voice!
A huge “AMEN!” to Clive Owen! I adore his voice! (And the rest of him isn’t bad either
)
And I love Josh Turner’s voice. I only have the album with LONG BLACK TRAIN on it. Guess I need to update, eh?
I have been in love with Sean Connery ever since I was 11 and saw him in a movie called Straw woman or somethings like that. His voice has only gotten more sexy over the years. and “Bond, James Bond” has always knocked my socks off. As to all the others, Elliot, Rickman, Crowe, Grant, both Richard and Hugh, Firth, Sewell, etc, I am a true lover of the sexy, smooth and crusty Accents. I don’t watch Lost or 24 as I can’t get into the whole conspiracy thing after X-files. But I have friends who adore both. I watched Alan Rickman and Colin Firth in Love Actually last week (24th time) and they both just make me melt. Just that whisper when Alan says"I’m such a fool” makes me want to hold him and say it is alright. I mean really, the guy is admitting to an affair and you still want to hold him. Sheech!! As for Sam Elliot, between him and Tom Selleck they make Louis Lamour the greatest western writer ever. Even Dan Duryea, in some of his best westerns makes me shiver.
The other week I heard Robert Wagner on NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me quiz/comedy show. Oh my! That voice brings back the visual of Robert Wagner in the early 1960’s. He’s stunning to listen to--even more stunning for the disembodiment. (As opposed to disembowelment--which wouldn’t be stunning at all.)
The person who makes me melt everytime he speaks is Gerard Butler from the Phantom of the Opera and 300. His voice by far is the sexiest, and he isn’t bad to look at.
In a close second, third and fourth; Clive Owen, Christian Bale, and in agreement with cookee mama, Colin Firth. He’s really the one that got me started on sexy voices with European accents.
Christina, I was just thinking about Truly, Madly Deeply today, and how wonderfully romantic it is, even when you’re seeing Juliet Stevens all snotty and red-eyed… It might have worked if Alan Rickman had played the other guy instead of… that other guy. But still a good movie.
For some reason, I love to listen to Bill Pullman. I can imagine him saying desperate love words in that gritty voice of his… Okay, maybe I’m strange.
I think David Bowie has the number one sexy voice… When he sings “If you say run, I’ll run with you. And if you say hide, we’ll hide” I swear I think “Well, I wasn’t thinking about running and hiding, but now that you mention it, let’s go!”
And to prove I’m a freak… Tim Curry. Think Dr. Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sexy! ...The VOICE! Just the Voice! Okay, and a little of the fishnet.
I’ve loved accents and deep voices all my life. My first crush as a kid was Yul Bryner.
There’s Sean Connery, Patrick Stewart and even Craig Ferguson lol and oh so many more.
How about ELVIS PRESLEY, he may have been good looking but THAT VOICE!
Clint Eastwood in his spegetti western days- the voice definitely added to the “cowboy” appeal.
Jim Morrison of The Doors - his voice still gives me chills.
I second - Sean Connory, Harry Connick Jr, Antonio Banderas, Alan Rickman, and several other great selections.
I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a complete sucker for a man with an accent. Momma never warned me about Southern boys, but she should have. And an English accent just makes me melt.
I just watched Elizabeth the other night, and I absolutely adore Joseph Fiennes. He can whisper in my ear anytime.
Oh nanadirat, if you’re a freak for loving Tim Curry, then I’m a freak too! I still swoon when I watch RHPS and he comes off that elevator for the first time. I never dreamed a guy could be so hot in garters and fishnet stockings!
I think that’s why I like Terrence Mann in THE DRESDEN FILES. He looks and sounds a little like Tim.
I would sit and listen to either Sean Connery or Patrick Stewart read me the phone book.
I’ve also always like Tommy Lee Jone’s voice. Vin Diesel’s is pretty sexy too.
nanadirat said…
“And to prove I’m a freak… Tim Curry. Think Dr. Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sexy! ...The VOICE! Just the Voice! Okay, and a little of the fishnet. “
I was afraid to mention him before but I totally agree with you. I wanted that creature of the night to toucha, toucha, touch ME!
and in Legend when he played the Devil. I loved the way he said “innocence”. Forget that Tom Cruise, I wanted more of the scary guy with the horns and the sexy voice.
Oh and I forgot to mention....I’m a big fan of The Dresden Files. I’ve started reading the books.
Ditto on the accent. I’m an uber sucker for them as well.
My all time favorite voice is Alan Rickman, he makes Snape so yummy with his voice.
Also love Vin Diesel, Pitch Black is one of my favorite movies, just for his voice.
All I gotta say is...........
MICHAEL DORN!!! yowsa!
I agree with some of the others...Sean Connery, Clive Owen, Christian Bale, Ioan Gruffudd and Alan Rickman. Love those accents.
--dorothy
Alan Rickman’s voice is great; I think my favorite movie of his was “Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves’s.” He was not only devious, but had some funny lines in it. My all time favorite male voice is Gerard Butler. He gets that deep timber in his voice that makes me get all fluttery inside!
Can’t leave out my husband when he whispers in my ear!
You guys (or maybe just Christina and Teresa) were talking about Edward Norton, and I just wanted to add: has anyone seen The Painted Veil? He and Naomi Watts are both EXCELLENT in that. Beautiful movie. Great kiss. I won’t give anything away.
Oh, this is so hard! I’m not even going to read the other posts first and say the first name that came to my head. Robby Benson. I know. I know but even when he was younger I loved that slight crackle in his voice. Then when he got older and used his ‘real’ voice, well it was so deep that I could feel it resonate in my ear. And don’t get me started with him as the Beast.
Next, it would have to be Cary Grant whether he’s taking care of Baby or getting locked in the nail closet in his CT home....speak to me darlin’.
Yes, to Goran Visnjic! Yes, to Gerard Butler when he’s dishing with Craig Ferguson! Yes, yes to Colin Firth....anytime, anywhere. And, believe it or not, Tom Selleck. He does one of the voices in Disney’s ‘Meet the Robinsons’ and I felt all warm and fuzzy.
Now, I’m going to read the rest to see who I’ve forgotten.
Oh, and Aragon. How I envied Liv Tyler for their pledges in Elfin.
Okay, I just read everyone’s and YES to them all. I’ll just add one more. I did a wine and cheese show last year and the vendor next to us was a gentleman representing a winery from Spain. Oh, my stars! What a gorgeous, deep baratone Spanish accent. Delish!
Jason Statham from “The Transporter” among many deep-voiced Brits and Irish men; such as, Colin Farrell. Also, I can’t forget southern accents in the U.S., any Australian.
There are so many if I listed them all there would be no end.
CRAIG FERGUSON!!!! Wow. What a voice.
Also :
Matthew McConaughey, Sam Elliot, Kiefer Sutherland, Tommy Lee Jones, Gerard Butler, Antonio Banderas, Alan Rickman, Patrick Stewart, Sean Connery, Cary Grant, Tom Selleck, Kurt Russell…
Whew. It’s enough to make a girl’s panties fall off!
Gerard Butler hmm? I just bought the “Phantom and the Opera” movie. I’ll have to watch it soon so I can check out this dude I’ve heard so much about from so many women…
Top of the list, hands down, is Sean Connery. That man could say anything and I’d melt!
Alan Rickman, Craig Ferguson, Liam Neeson, Josh Holloway (Sawyer) and Desmond from LOST, Antonio Banderas, Tim Curry (I’m a freak too), Sam Elliott, and Andrea Bocelli to sing to me.
My word verification is all 24--I’m sure I could keep the list going until I reached that many.
Oh, oh, oh ... just thought of another. Ever see the Disney movie Anastasia? The prince has the most delicious voice ... I was dying to find out who it was. And it was JOHN CUSACK! Oh my gosh, but he has a rich, husky voice that just made me sigh.
Mmm mmm mmm!
(And Cousin It, I agree with you about Tim Roth. He plays some bizarre parts, but my-oh-my, niiiice voice!)
I would have to add Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, and Brendan Fraizer(sp?). I loved just listening to Indian Jones when my dad and brother would put the movies in! And I think Kevin Costner is just to sexy for words. He has the voice and the body. Oh, and Johnny Cash.
Teresa,
I would have to save that I love an accent. Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery, Liam Neeson. There are many parts to “Rob Roy” that I skim through but I love to listen to Liam speak. He could read the phone book to me and I would be a puddle.
Great topic!
It’s late in the day, and ITA with lots of the choices, but hands down, for me, the man with the sexiest voice will always be:
Gregory Peck.
Sigh. Who wouldn’t have abandoned a whole country to run away with him in ‘Roman Holiday’?
I always seem to be very late to blog.
Do like Sean Connery, Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan.
Can not stand Hugh Grant.
Well, I’m glad I’m not the only freak. I bought a Tim Curry cassette tape when I was 14 and played it until it wore out, even though I have to admit it wasn’t really a great album…
And I second the Vin Diesel vote. It’s the bass. I read once that the uterus picks up bass notes (weird, I know) - maybe that’s why we respond to deep voices like Alan Rickman’s.
Wow, and I just looked that not-so-great album up on Amazon and it sells for $95. I paid $4 for my tape in the discount bin.
nanadirat, I had that same cassette. And used to play it over and over again.
I think that explains why I was so strangely attracted to Nikki Sixx later on(and still am, ew).
oh, this post is a bit old, so im not sure if anyone will read this, but i have to say it. Stellan Skarsgard. I became familiarized with this actor from his role in “King Arthur” as the Viking king. During the first scene that I saw him, he was talking with his men arround a fire...and i heard his voice, and closed my eyes, and just melted in my chair. That man has a powerful, rumbling voice, that just revertebrates inside you and makes you yearn for a night under the stars
I totally agree with the Gerard Butler comment Scots are totally to die for. But I also though about David Boreanaz from Angel and Bones, Hugo Weaving beautiful silky yet extremlly powerful under the V for Vendetta mask and what about joaquin phoenix? I Just love how dark and sinister his voice sounds. imagine in a dark alley he whispers your name and your terrified yet but totally and uncontrolable attracted.
I recently met a young man with the most old-fashioned, upper-crust, Southern accent I have ever heard (in real life).
I noticed him as a handsome young man--fine, whatever. But when he opened his mouth! I believe he may be Ashley Wilks’ (?sp) long lost cousin. At a minimum he must have been raised on an antebellum plantation. Think Foghorn Leghorn--but gentile. I know that doesn’t sound sexy, but on a handsome 23 year old with a lock of wavy brown hair falling over his eye it is truly drool-worthy. Oh, I forgot to mention that smile he has that is meant only for me…
