TERESA WELCOMES THE NEW SEASON
63 Comments
UGLY BETTY and STUDIO 60 are at the top of my curiosity list too, Pamela! Thank heavens for TIVO!
Hi Teresa and all the rest of you~~

Been ages since I poked my head in the door.

I’m like you, Teresa, I enjoy watching the series on DVD, mainly b/c I never know if I’ll be home to watch it when it’s broadcast and I hate missing an episode.

I don’t have the premium channels or TIVO, either.

My favorites are Desperate Housewives, House, Monk and Weeds.

I couldn’t get into Lost b/c the first season’s paranormal events freaked me out so bad I had nightmares about it. Yeah, call me “Wussy-girl”!
The returning show I want to see most is the original CSI. It ended with Sara Sidle leaving Grissom’s bathroom in a robe making one wonder if their relationship was now more than professional. We also Tivo/watch MY NAME IS EARL and THE OFFICE pretty faithfully. They’re just so darn funny! I don’t usually miss an episode of THE 4400 either.

Of the new shows EUREKA debuted on SciFi a few weeks ago. It is pretty cool. This part comedy, part drama, features a US Marshall who becomes sheriff of a secret small town composed of the nation’s best scientists. We set the DVR for it as well.

HEROES, which debuts on NBC this fall has also caught our eye. Makes me think of the X-MEN based on the previews.

Teresa~ We watch several shows on DVD too. We don’t have HBO so DVD is how we were able to watch DEADWOOD and CARNIVAL. I also plan on watching GRAY’S ANATOMY on DVD since I missed all but one episode of the first season.

Pamela~ You’re not alone...I’m an addict too.
The minute I saw McDreamy on that cover the other week, I picked it up pronto! I CAN NOT WAIT until the Grey’s Anatomy new season! I got hooked last season and still need to see the first half of season 2, but the characters and storylines are wonderful.

I’m also ready for Desperate Housewives and I will check out Studio 60 tonight. Other than that, I’m pretty picky when it comes TV. With two toddlers, I really have to love a show to routinely watch it.

Colleen
Um, we have 2 Tivos and a DVR so we can record like 5 things at once for, well, 2 of us. TV is very important to us. We have major meetings on what will make the cut and what we’ll watch together or individually.

Let’s see… Returning favorites - How I Met Your Mother, Weeds, Gilmore Girls, House, Nip/Tuck, SVU, Bones, CSI, Grey’s Anatomy and Supernatural (yes, those last 3 air the same time). Eventually, we’ll add 24 and The L Word when they are.

New shows - Studio 60, Runaway, Veronica Mars, Friday Night Lights, Smith, 30 Rock, Brotherhood, Ugly Betty.

Not all of them will make it. I’ve already stopped watching Vanished. I’m watching Smith for hottie Simon Baker and Friday Night Lights for Kyle Chandler.
Prison Break. I’m waiting for that yummy mountain that is Lincoln to lose his shirt. Oh. My. God.
Welcome back Cinthia! We’ve missed you!

And don’t be embarrassed, April. I’m campaigning to get the new 100-hour TIVO so we can move the old 37-hour TIVO into the bedroom. Yes, I like TV and I always have.
I know what you mean, Teresa, about Charlie Sheen (or any other star!) for that matter. I’m not a super regular but so watch 2 1/2 men also for Jon Cryer. I think mostly ‘cuz I loved Ducky so much in “Pretty in Pink”! Charlie and Jon do seem to have a nice timing/chemistry.
We do watch “Survivor” even with the strange ethnic divisions this season. We love the contests and such…
Cinthia said, “I couldn’t get into Lost b/c the first season’s paranormal events freaked me out so bad I had nightmares about it. Yeah, call me “Wussy-girl"!"

Wow, Cinthia, we’re long-lost sisters! Did Ghost-Busters scare you, too?
I’m a huge fan of House. WOW wow WOW. Love that show. We just started watching Prison Break, which is just okay IMO, and I can’t wait for LOST to come back. Also How I Met Your Mother ended on a fantastic cliff-hanger...as did Two and a Half Men, so yes, I will be catching those this week, too.

Just started watching Happy Hour, which so far is fantastic, and Newlyweds (is that the name?)- also cute. Refused to start watching Vanished simply because I can no longer keep up. Every weekend we have to clear 4 Colbert Reports out of the DVR...not to mention XPlay and Daily Show! Now they’ve started rerunning Scrubs on Comedy Central and it’s tempting. Very tempting.

What was life before Tivo?
Has any one seen Justice on FOX? It is different… cause they solve the case and then they show you what actaully happened. Interesting…

I’m also interested in Shark.

Sarah in Aggieland

who is…

Enjoying new House and Bones
Happy for new CSIs soon…
How many days until new Veronica Mars?
lacey kaye, I’d give up my dishwasher AND my microwave before I’d give up my TIVO. I just love the amount of control it brings to your TV viewing!
I too am a huge fan of House. I love Hugh!

I’m looking forward to the start of How I Met Your Mother tonight. The show just makes me laugh. Two and a Half Men is also hilarious.

Can’t wait for Lost to start, although I hope they don’t stop it for too long along the way. It seems everytime we’re really into it they take it off the air for a couple of weeks and it’s hard to keep up the enthusiam.
I just ordered TiVo. I can’t wait! Grey’s Anatomy (check out the writer’s blog,if you haven’t already http://www.greyswriters.com/), Boston Legal, Two and a Half Men, All of the CSIs, NCIS, The Unit, Smallville, Without A Trace, Cold Case, Desperate Housewives, Ghost Whisperer, Criminal Minds...I’m sure there are more.

I think I watch too much TV…
I love me some tv (and am so happy that comcast came this morning, just in time for the new shows).

Returning faves will be Lost, Gray’s Anatomy (I love McDreamy but am over Merideth), Scrubs and the Office

New ones I’m curious about will be Heroes, Studio 60, The Nine and Ugly Betty

I’m sure I’ll be watching a lot more but it’s always nerve wracking commiting to a new show because if it fails then we’re left with no closure which I hate!
I heard that they’re going to try something new with ER this year since it doesn’t repeat well--air 12 episodes, then take it off the air for a couple of months and then come back and air the next 12 new episodes. Sounds better than airing 2 new ones, then 4 old ones like they were doing!
Let’s hear it for Tivo and all other DVR’s. Didn’t there use to be a brand that could record 2 shows at once? Cuz that’s the only thing Larry (yes, I named my Tivo) can’t do.
Just Smallville for me

Lois
I wish I had Tivo!! My fall lineup of shows are CSI(Vegas), Without a Trace, Survivor, House, The Amazing Race, and whatever else I get addicted to. i haven’t heard of some of the shows you guys listed so maybe if they don’t conflict with what I have I’ll give them a try.I really need to check my listings and make a schedule before I figure out any new shows.
With regards to TiVo, my husband and I always joke if the house was on fire, I’d grab the cat, and he’d grab the TiVos

I’m looking forward to the return of Veronica Mars, The Amazing Race and Battlestar Galactica. And of course, I’ll record The Office—it is just the perfect comedy. As for new shows: Studio 60 looks decent as does the one with Ray Liotta and Virginia Madsen.

I find though that I can’t keep up with TiVo so I end up only watching a few shows that I can actively find time for.
Any fan of Hugh Laurie really, really must rent the Jeeves & Wooster TV series on DVD. Hugh Laurie plays Bertie Wooster! Really well!

I know that actors are supposed to be able to act, and thus play very different characters depending on the role, but there aren’t many actors who would be able to play a foppish, blonde, bubbly British aristocrat and a dour, grizzled, and brilliant American doctor with equal aplomb. But Laurie does.
I haven’t seen Jeeves and Wooster yet but I must! To be honest, I love the comedy, dialogue and the characterization on HOUSE even more than the mystery medical cases. (Although as a former nurse, those are fun too!)
Like you, Teresa, I have crushes on actors who aren’t normally crush material. My current “boyfriend” is Raymond Cruz from The Closer. Dark, strong, silent Latino ... be still my heart! But I have to wait till December for the new season!!!

Ahh well. That’s what Netflix and reruns are for, right?

Mary
House, which I hope continues in the same vein as the second episode this season and not the premiere; I don’t watch for the medicine at all
. Gilmore Girls - I’ve been watching the first season again, and wow, have some things changed. Studio 60 - fingers crossed it will be good and not go the way of Sports Night or Firefly. Boston Legal, when I remember it’s on, and Grey’s, from time to time, although I find many of the characters/storylines rather annoying.
I’ve been MIA as my dd’s cancer may have returned (but that’s a whole blog in itself, not just a post) but have to comment on this.

I’ve never been a TV watcher--CNN is generally more my style, but I’m hooked on Grey’s Anatomy. I love the fact that the characters’ flaws are out there in full view with no excuses. I spent more time than I should have this weekend watching season two on dvd with said dd, and loved every single non-productive moment of it. Oh and to be honest, the fact that the men in it aren’t hard to look at either helps too.
I LOVE House… and CSI… and Mythbusters… and Dirty Jobs!

Mike from Dirty Jobs (Discovery Channel) reminds me of House; he has a similar hilarious cynical nature.
16 days until new season of Veronica Mars. I love the show so much i just purchased my first dvr so I wont miss anything this season.
whooops 15 days until new season start of Veronica Mars Oct 3. Between all the new shows starting and all the new books coming out soon it’s going to be a busy fall for me lol
oh, anonymous, I adore Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs. He’s totally hot, incredibly funny, self-depricating, smart, not afraid of hard work, and he can even sing! For those who have never watched the show: Mike goes around helping everyday people do the dirty jobs they have to do. And some jobs are really, really, disgusting. He does them all with a sense of humor, and with a true appreciation for these folks who are out there every day doing this work. Tune in to Discovery Channel Tuesdays at 9 (eastern)!

I don’t watch much TV, honestly. There are days when I never turn it on. I do watch Dirty Jobs, of course, and House, and Bones. I also like The Unit and I like true crime shows like City Confedential and The First 48.
Sarah, I love Justice… it’s soooo good.

I’m excited about Lost, Ugly Betty, and Prison Break plus a slew of others. LOL. Did anyone see by the way that they are doing yet another incursion of The Bachelor? But, it happens in Rome and apparently the Bachelor is a prince.
My 15 year old son and I have a date every Thursday to watch CSI and Supernatural. Jensen Ackles, young but yummy! Gilmore Girls is my other must see TV.
House tops my list of faves--I adore Hugh Laurie! Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Nip/Tuck are also on the list. Thank heavens for my DVR!

Currently addicted to Project Runway.
Get out the TIVO, DVD, VHS and start recording...I do all this so I can at least see the first episodes of all the new shows. Then I see which catches my attention and watch from there.

It’s a new season with HOUSE, DR. McDREAMY, EARL, CSI’s-Miami, NY & Vegas
I envy you all a lot. I don’t know when the local tv station and cable service operator are going to bring the latest seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, House and Lost to Singapore. I just saw the GA episode where Meredith and McVet delivered the foal last night!

So what should I do? I can read the recaps and reviews from televisionwithoutpity, but it is just ... not ... the same.

And heh, I am really hoping they will bring in Ugly Betty. My best friend & I rushed home from class/work just to watch the original show Yo Soy Betty La Fea. And would do a 45 min analysis of a 30 min show next time we meet. We didn’t understand the language, we read the subtitles and still went on an emotional rollercoaster.
I don’t watch a lot of tv series (just stuff like What Not to Wear) but I am hoping that “The Nine” is good and a hit. Why? Because one of my big crushes stars in it: Timothy Daly. He looks just as handsome now as he did 15 years ago. Sigh.
WOOT! Veronica Mars is coming to local TV stations. Whose doing the happy dance? I am, of course! I’ve got Oct. 3 marked and highlighted on my calendar and NOTHING better happen that night cuz I’m gonna be glued to the TV. oh, and Cordelia’s brief case was full of money. I think she wants Keith to find Dick SR. And what about Keith standing up poor Veronica at the airport?!?! AND I think we’ll see a story line involving Logan’s mom. *whew. Typed that all in one big breath* My name is Kim and I. Love. Veronica. Mars. I watch seasons 1 and 2 over and over:D

oh and I also enjoy Desperate Housewives! Is Mike dead? Poor, silly Susan out in the boonies with no power! Tom’s ex-one-night-stand is moving to the neighborhood. And that freaky Zach. He really gives me the creeps. Mostly because my son hangs out with a kid who looks and acts just like him. *shudders*

I’m also looking forward to Heroes. That looks interesting and different. Las Vegas, all the Law & Orders, ER and House.

Did anyone else joyously watch Rachel Rays show today? Man, I love her! Yum-O!

Now could someone PLEASE tell my husband that I NEED cable? and Tivo? PLEASE?

Kim, who obviously watches too much TV. lol.
Oh Gannon, I LO-VE project runway! I am amazed at those people a coture dress in 1 day..amazing!
Oh I am so addicted to TV! I do all my cross stitch and crochet while watching tv, so at least I can sort of justify it by showing how productive I’m being LOL. We have a DVR. Live is so much better with a DVR. I also have the advantage of having two young kids and a hubby who is away two weeknights with the Navy and travels a lot for work as well, so I have a lot of quiet evenings at home after the little ones are in bed, and the DVR is the only way we both get to watch the shows we love together.

Shows for me:
House
ER
Grey’s Anatomy
Gilmore Girls

Shows with DH:
Bones
CSI
Numbers
Hey Christina....

Ghostbusters didn’t exactly give me “nightmares” but I did have some pretty vivid dreams after seeing it--and I’ve never been comfortable around those blow up Michelin Men since then, either…
Pamela--the TiVo I just ordered records 2 at once...check out their website. It just came out, I think.
House - tuned in late last season! Someone PLEASE get Teresa Jeeves & Wooster!

Gray’s Anatomy - late to that one too!

All CSI’s

Vegas - I’m waiting for gravity to hit the ladies!

Without a Trace - LOVE it!

Studio 60 - yeah Matthew Perry!

How I Met Your Mother - yes, I want to know who he ends up with and I love Barney---not the dinasaur!

I think that’s it! Eureka! entrigues me!
I don’t have much time for tv but I LOVED the double episode opener of Men in Trees. Reminded me of Northern Exposure, one of my all time favs.

I missed RRay today… darn and forgot about Ugly Betty which looked really good on the promo.

other favs are Amazing Race, Survivor, My Name is Earl and Dancing with the Stars

Delia
I’ve been hooked on Grey’s Anatomy since the very first episode. Eagerly anticipating the new season.

I loved Men in Trees too. It does have that Northern Exposure feel and that show was one of my all-time favorites too.

I’m a reality junkie too and love to watch Survivor, Amazing Race, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol.

24 is another show I’ve loved since the very first episode. Gotta have my Jack Bauer fix. Just wish I didn’t have to wait so long for it!
I love Grey’s Anatomy (as does nearly everyone, apparently), the Amazing Race (actually a GOOD reality show), and this summer, I got hooked on the reruns of My Name is Earl. Talk about comedic timing!
Men In Trees is sooooooooooo cute~! I LOVE it. First episonde reminded me of Breathing Room by SEP.
I’m hooked on too many shows. I love NCIS and The Unit. I watch Bones, House, and I already like Standoff. CSI, ER, Lost, Numbers, Grey’s Anatomy and Justice. Will check out Shark and Six Degrees to see if they’re any good. I like Close to Home (new season with David James Elliot . . . whoo hoo!) and Ghost Whisperer.

It’s a good thing I don’t have cable or I’d never get anything done.
I caught the double episode opener of Men In Trees, also. I also thought it reminded me of Northern Exposure and Breathing Room by SEP. I think I’m going to try to keep watching that one. I caught Studio 60 last night and liked it. I just love everyone that is in that show. I knew nothing about it until Sunday when someone mentioned it to me. So, I have no expectations.

I burned out on TV a couple of years ago. I’m gonna give it another go with these 2 shows and see what happens.
The show I most look forward to watching is Studio 60. I love Sorkin’s writing!!! I’m also waiting for the season premier of Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Guilty pleasures include Dancing with the Stars. I’ve heard good things about Ugly Betty, so I’ll check it out a few times. Plus, and this is a major plus, it’s FOOTBALL SEASON again! Woohoo.
caught studio 60 last night also. And I really enjoyed it. I’ve never watched a sorkin show before but I really like the rhythym of the dialogue and that they don’t write down to the audience. They were 0 to 60 within the first five minutes and they weren’t waiting for me to catch up.
Have been anxiously awaiting Studio 60 and it did not disappoint! I loved the writers from West Wing, and they have taken on a new genre that I think will be thought-provoking and fascinating!

This will be a keeper for me this season!
House!! I love House! It is by far my favorite TV show. His sense of humor is right up my alley :D I worship that man. Now if only he would use his real British accent...*sigh* that would be perfect.

I’ve recently become addicted to Till Death and Happy Hour on FOX (Thursday nights, starting at 8 PM EST)
HILARIOUS. I nearly bust my sides watching both of those shows.

Three Moons over Milford is pretty good. It’s on Sunday nights on The Family Channel....not sure what time though. Mayb 8 or 9 PM EST.

Those are my current addictions, when I remember to watch them that is :D
I was hoping someone would pop in and tell me how STUDIO 60 was last night! I forgot to set the Tivo :(

I never watched THE WEST WING much but I remember loving the rhythm of Sorkin’s dialogue in SPORTS NIGHT.

Anybody catch the CSI: MIAMI season opener? Judging from the last few episodes of last year and the first of this year, the writers need to put down the crack pipe. It’s starting to make the regular CSI look like Shakespeare!
I thought Studio 60 was very good, Teresa. The premise for the series is very interesting, good acting, and characters who seem like real people. I was definitely intrigued enough to keep watching.
I don’t usually watch network programs but...did anyone notice Ray Liotta has a new show this Fall...Young for me, yes, but interesting to look at.

boykbtm...just what I was saying-interesting to look at...LOL
Studio 60 was grand. Deep friendship between Whiford’s character and Perry’s character. It was so cool to see a writing friendship/partnership on tv..that ability to talk in short hand reminds of some of my best writing friends.

This is going to be a good show.

*none of them have a cocaine problem like Whitfords’ character...
Anon. Rebecca
I have definitely got to get TIVO so that maybe when I finally get to set down around 10 or 11 p.m. I can watch something before bed each night. I want a good comedy to kill the stress of the day for a relaxing night of peaceful sleep. I love to watch “Whose Line Is It Anyway” when I can. Any advice on a new series to watch?
I toooootally get the Hugh Laurie/House thing. My guilty secret: Survivor.
http://www.nbc.com/Studio_60_on_the_Sunset_Strip/

Here’s the link ..the ENTIRE episode is online if anyone wants to watch it.

Anon> Rebecca
Oh, I have to keep an eye out for Ray Liotta’s show. I’ve loved him ever since he played Joey on ‘Another World’.
What’s a ‘beta’ and should I switch to it?
I can’t wait for Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, and Veronica Mars to start!

I’m looking forward to the new show Heroes too. It looks good AND Greg Grunberg is going to be showing up on it, and I’ve loved him since Felicity.

Krissy
Ooh, thanks for the link Anon, Rebecca. I adore Matthew Perry. Will have to hit the treadmill early on Mondays to catch Studio 60!
Ah, a topic near and dear to my heart, Teresa. Of returning shows the top of my list are the usual suspects. Veronica Mars (what’s in that briefcase, Cordelia?), Gilmore Girls (but Luke and Lorelei are soulmates, right?), Lost (who is that blond woman and why are those russian guys in a blizzard?)

But I love the anticipation of new shows too. There’s always the chance to fall in love all over again with a new character or concept. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip has been hyped so much I’m almost afraid it can’t live up to it but I’ll still give it a shot when it premieres tonight. I love serialized shows too so I usually look for dramas. Heroes looks to be filling my sci-fi fixation. And Ugly Betty base on a telenova from another country sounds like it came right out of a romance novel. ugly duckling assistant hired specifically because playboy boss WON’T sleep with her. perfect set-up for a long term romance.

Addicted to television? who? me?

I just hope my Tivo can handle it.
